The Gorillaz have Released ‘DoYaThing’
Is it an instruction or a cry for help? We hear that Gorillaz have decided to release their new single title ‘DoYaThing‘ on a free download. Perhaps the group is in a generous mood and they want to give something back to the fans that have been supporting them throughout their eventful careers. We will take them up on the offer given the fact that the pedigree of the group ensures that the track will be a success. During this project they collaborated with OutKast in the guise of Andre 3000. They also had support from James Murphy from SoundSystems. Originally this song had been created for three artists from Converse. The side collaborations are rather complex but at least we can expect some decent stuff at the end of the day.
Revamping a band that is looking to the future
Perhaps it is worth noting that Jamie Hewlett from the band had been involved in the designing of a new shoe range for the Converse website. This is going to form part of the merchandizing for ‘DoYaThing‘ and will mean that the group can recoup the money that has been spent completing the production. This is a very clever idea unless the fans take a cynical view. Marketing at the top of the range can be a difficult business especially if you are selling to people who are not willing to buy the concepts that you have in mind for them.
Having considered the music, we can also look forward to the sounds associated with the Gorillaz. We have received a preview based on the 12 minute unedited versions which were prepared courtesy of Damon Albarn. Last year the group was able to celebrate their 10th anniversary in the business as a team. That meant that they were able to release a collection of singles that runs from 2001 to 2011. It has also been rumored that they are hoping to do a project with Blur.
