Madonna and Lionel Richie Fight for the Top Spot

Earning the title of USA No.1 is a highly prized achievement in the entertainment business. This is the country with the most active consumers in terms of purchasing music. Once you hit America then you have hit the big time. Madonna and Lionel Richie have been at this game for a very long time and now they are simultaneously competing for the top spot. It helps each camp that they are citizens but at the end of the day the publicity will win the day. On balance Lionel is bound to put more artistry in the music while Madonna is going to be virtually unbeatable on presentation. The winners are the consumers who get to sample different musical genres.

A case of two great artists competing for the same thing

One might have assumed that at their age and given their level of success, the artists in question might not have worried about the rankings. Both Madonna and Lionel Richie have made fortunes from the entertainment industry. They are respected across the globe for dedicating themselves to something that brings lots of pleasure into lives and communities. They are no longer the young things that are trying to make a name. Instead we have high expectations of them when they release an album or a single. They have to be pretty good and anything less than that will lead to grumbles about deteriorating performances.

The first battle lines have been set. We know that ‘MDNA’ is likely to sell about 325,000 units in the first week. This is a great figure than ‘Hard Candy’ which went out in 2008 with 280,000 units. The figures for Madonna’s album are 140,000 great than those of Lionel Richie. He is coming back with some great digital sales figure. His album was on top of the iTunes page on its first day of release.
