Katy Perry Faces Accusations of Obscenity Following her Performance at an Indian Cricket Ground

It was bound to happen at some point given the sauciness of her concerts. Katy Perry faces serious accusations of gross indecency. Her performance at an Indian cricket ground has been described as being ‘obscene’ although that is a fluid term given the cultural conservatism of the people in that part of the world. First her tour insurance company forbade the singer from wearing her signature spinning bra. They gave this edict following concerns about the safety of the musician.

-      Controversy abounds on tour: During one of her concerts, Katy Perry faced imminent danger when her hair caught in the bra contraption. The insurance company swung into auctioned and banned her from wearing the controversial accessory. Despite this requirement, the artist is still causing commotion during her live performances on tour.

Why is Katy being rebellious?

A lawyer has now raised the prospect of legal prosecution for indecency. It is not clear whether Katy Perry is taking the allegations seriously. Her performance has been described as being ‘obscene and lascivious’. The courts will have a chance to consider the accusations on the 31st of July. A set of saucy dance moves with an Australian cricket player seem to be at the heart of the complaint. Of course the unintended consequence is that this kerfuffle might encourage Americans to take an interest in cricket, a sport which they currently ignore for the most part.

We might say that Katy Perry is now the official saucy sponsor for an obscure English bat-and-ball game. The legal drama is quite bizarre to say the least. K. Jebakumar is using his legal skills to pursue a charge which many in the Western world may consider to be frivolous in nature. At the moment we do not know whether the Australian cricketer Doug Bollinger is going to face similar charges for his performance during the launch of the Indian Premier League in April.

A lawyer goes to work

As the singer danced on stage, some people were complaining that she was outraging public decency. The pop star has been known to create havoc in many of her shows. Apparently her act offended certain members of the public and it also distracted students who were busy preparing for their exams! Katy Perry is not the first major US star to land in hot water over Indian norms. Richard Gere kissed Shilpa Shetty in 2007, causing a storm of outrage following an AIDS awareness rally.
