Will the Arctic Monkeys Play at the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics?

Rumor has it that the Arctic Monkeys may play at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. The games are due to start tomorrow with a lavish opening ceremony that has taken months to prepare. Obviously the British contingent will want to involve one of their most iconic bands. Just last month a leaked document indicated that the band was scheduled to make an appearance at the high profile event.

Others who were in the running included Happy Mondays, Muse, Adele and MIA. Just yesterday Juan Martin Rinaldi (an Argentinean journalist) tweeted a photograph which appeared to show the bands frontman Alex Turner rehearsing for the opening ceremony. Of course it might have been that he was rehearsing for the closing event given the fact that the stadium is now almost in constant use.

The stars are coming out to welcome the games

When contacted, the bands representatives desisted from confirming or denying the reports. In any case Paul McCartney already let the cut out of the bag when he hinted that he would be performing at the opening ceremony on the 27th of July. The event has been scheduled to take place in East London. The director of Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting is going to be in charge of staging. Danny Boyle comes with some serious credentials and fans are expecting something spectacular. The total cost of the spectacle is expected to be in the region of £27 million.

There will be ‘moshpits’ on each side of the East London arena. This is indeed a node to the Glastonbury Festival fallow year. It is a model of the Glastonbury Tor. One of the moshpits will have a festival atmosphere while the other is reminiscent of the Last Night of the Proms. 100 people will make up the posy for each moshpit. When selecting the line-up for the event, the organizers were looking to celebrate 50 years of British Music. Many of the details are being kept secret but some of the big names are already slipping out.

Little hints about the event

Just last week we were told that the soundtracks for the opening and closing events for the London 2012 Olympic Games would be released after the events. They are officially titled ‘Isles of Wonder: Music for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games’. The album will be digitally released from the 28th of July at midnight. Meanwhile the physical release comes out later on the 6th of August.
