Courtney Love to Lana Del Rey: Think About My Vagina Before Singing The Heart-Shaped Box
Hardly a month goes by without Courtney Love going in the deep end. She has now decided to lay into Lana Del Rey by suggesting that the singer should think about Love’s vagina every time that she sung about a ‘Heart-Shaped Box’. Perhaps she is jealous of the fact that LDR covered a Nirvana classic last week in Australia. The ‘Born to Die’ singer is making the waves and that can make some people a little jealous especially if they are used to hogging all the attention.
- Is a catfight coming on? Courtney Love did not mince her words when she heard about the cover. Lana Del Rey’s cover of ‘Heart-Shaped Box must have hit a raw nerve. The ‘Summertime Sadness’ singer debuted the cover last while in Sydney and that has led to some choice words.
The ‘Hole’ frontwoman took to twitter to attack LDR. The posts have since been deleted. She asked whether Del Rey knew that the songs were about Courtney’s vagina. Furthermore she described some fairly intimate processes involving umbilical cords and climbing back into the vagina. All this came about because Lana Del Rey had performed the classic during a show at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney on the 26th of July.
Musical egos and a confused wife
In fact ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ was the first single to be taken from Nirvana’s third studio album. They released ‘In Utero’ at the height of their fame in August 1993. It managed to reach number five on the UK Singles Chart and has become a cult classic of sorts. Previously Lana Del Rey had discussed the impact that the song had on her when she was growing up.
She said that when she was 11, she saw Kurt Cobain performing the number on MTV. Apparently that performance stopped her dead in her tracks. She says that he appeared to her to be the most beautiful person she had ever set eyes on. LDR says that even at that tender age, she was still able to relate to the incredible sadness that prevailed in Cobain’s turbulent life.
Clearly Courtney Love is not particularly pleased that Del Rey decided to do the cover in Sydney or else she would not have sent a message to the effect that the song was about her vagina. Later on she seems to have a change of heart and sent twitter messages claiming that it was all done in jest. Whatever Love…here is a clip of LDR performing the song:
