Madonna Gets a Hostile Reception in Poland: Catholics Accuse her of Promoting Pornography
It seems that Poland is decidedly right wing in all matters. Some protesters in the country have decided to go for Madonna. They accuse her of promoting pornography, a charge that is not entirely unfounded if you have objectively watched some of the shows that the singer is fond of putting up. Catholics in particular feel that she is offending their faith even as she performs on stage. You will remember that Madonna was born a Catholic but has since been poached by the likes of Kabbalah along the way.
- The lady is not for turning: Some catholic groups are not happy about the event scheduled to take place in Warsaw. Interestingly it falls on the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, a reminder of how people have had to suffer in order to secure freedom. The Poles have been celebrating this failed revolt against the Nazis on an annual basis. On the 1st of August sirens wail across the capital and everyone stands to pay their respect to the 200,000 or so people who perished during the uprising which lasted for 63 days.
In an effort to appease the protesters, the concert organizers have come to some sort of arrangement with the city officials so that they can show a short film about the event which happened in 1944. It is not clear whether this will enough to appease the people who are vehemently opposed to the idea of Madonna performing on the day.
Dealing with a strong contingent of protesters
Ania Pietrzak is one of the festival organizers. She agrees that this is an important moment in Polish history and should be celebrated accordingly. Madonna wants to remind people of the event by playing the film at her gig. Meanwhile catholic groups have started an online campaign which aims to discourage people from watching the concert. So far up to 50,000 people have signed up to the effort which is titled ‘Don’t Go to See Madonna’.
One of the groups is Krucjata Mlodych (Youth Crusade) has been saying anti-Madonna Mass services as well as other prayer sessions. They say that the singer is offending their faith by burning crucifixes as well as using offensive imagery composed of crowns of thorns. They also point out the view that she is promoting pornography in her shows. This particular tour has been hit with a wave of controversy. It seems that MDNA Tour is raising temperatures and not in a good way.
