The Pussy Riot Testimonials are Going to Be Read on a London Stage

This is a case that has captured the imagination of the great and good in the Hollywood set. Now we hear that the Pussy Riot testimonials are going to be read out on a stage in London. Verdicts are expected in the sham trial of the three singers on the 17th of August. The incarceration of the Russian punk band has outraged other celebrities. Meanwhile the readings are scheduled to take place at The Royal Court Theatre on the 17th of this money. The playwright EV Crowe has arranged the event as part of a global day of action in support of Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich.

Taking a stand against tyranny

Actors will begin reading the testimonials at 11am BST at the café bar within the venue. English versions of the prisoners’ testimonies will be read having been translated by Sasha Dugdale from their original Russian. Recently Bjork has joined the ranks of celebrities and ordinary people who are supporting the Russian Punk Collective. The Icelandic singer posted a message on her website backing the incarcerated trio. They have been in detention since their controversial arrest at the Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow during the month of March.

The singer Bjork has invited the group onstage in the future when they are released. She said that as a musician and mother she felt that she had to express her disagreement with the actions of the Russian regime. A peaceful protest performance was the precursor to the momentous events that are taking place in Russia. Vladimir Putin is accused of cracking down on dissent in Russia. The group apparently sung the song ‘Holy Shit’ in protest against the Orthodox Christian Church which has been an ardent supporter of the repressive regime. Currently they are on trial for hooliganism and prosecutors are asking for three years imprisonment.

Musicians such as Johnny Marr, Jarvis Cocker, Kate Nash and Alex Kapranos have written to Putin asking him to release the detained group. Madonna vocally supported the band even after being insulted by a Russian politician for allegedly moralizing to them. Click the link below to follow the case:
