Lady Gaga has been Labeled a Turncoat by PETA after she Wore Fur
The cardinal sin of hypocrisy may be about to catch up with Lady Gaga. The singer who is also an rights activist has been dubbed a turncoat by PETA. This stems from the fact that she was pictured wearing fur. However it seems that she is not particularly concerned about the stance that has been taken by the animal rights organization. Previously the ‘Born this Way’ singer had been praised by the same organization following an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in 2009. During that show she proclaimed that she hated fur and would not wear it. That position seems to have changed over the past few weeks as the star has been pictured wearing different fur coats. PETA responded by comparing her to Kim Kardashian who they also called ‘mindless’.
Lurching from one controversy to the next
A letter was published on the campaigning website’s page addressing the controversy. Dan Matthews is the Senior Vice President for PETA and he compared their fight for animal rights to the way in which the gay community has been struggling for equality despite insidious persecution. He says that the singer risks alienating her fanbase through her actions. Recently Lady Gaga was seen wearing something that appeared to come from a rabbit and a fox. Matthews says that the wolf carcass outfit makes it appear as if she were suffering from amnesia. He questions her stylistic choices and wanted to confirm whether this was fake fur or whether she had become a turncoat.
According to the PETA representative many gay people are animal rights advocates and they recognize the fact that arrogant indifference holds both those causes back. Dan says that by wearing fur, the singer is setting herself up for ridicule just like Kim Kardashian. When Lady Gaga went on twitter, she was anything but apologetic. She inferred that they should speak to the designer Hermes if they were worried about the material used to make the dress. In recent months other singers have incurred the wrath of PETA following their provocative sartorial choices. They once said that Noel Gallagher needs empathy counseling and that Rihanna was exploiting birds for the sake of her dubious looks.
