One Direction have Done a Cover of ‘Wonderwall’ by Oasis
The song has been the subject of some ridicule in the last few days but that has not stopped One Direction from doing a cover of ‘Wonderwall’, the song which was originally done by Oasis when they were on better terms with each other. Footage has emerged showing the band at work during the making of the ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ video. It features the five-piece boyband sitting on a beach while Niall Horan takes on the roll of Noel Gallagher. He strums a guitar while sitting on a cool box in a show that seems lightly ironic.
- Are they paying tribute or making fun of the band? Oasis fans were not particularly impressed by the cover. One of them with the Twitter handle ‘Bring it on Dan’ wrote that he could not believe that he had just watched One Direction cover the song. He sarcastically showed surprise that they had not bled from the ears. This was a cleverly disguised jibe at the young band’s credentials as a saccharine version of real music.
There was more to come: Another user called Adam Maughan said that the cover had effectively given him morning sickness with some awful guitar play. He advises the young group to stick to their ‘pop shit’ and also calls them talentless. April said that she was crying blood after watching the clip. It is safe to say that Oasis fans are not the likeliest of One Direction fans.
A younger band takes on something entirely different
Recently One Direction has been in the spotlight as they performed at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. At that time they were playing alongside Liam Gallagher’s Beady Eye band. They did their own rendition of ‘Wonderwall’ and that was followed by a furious exchange about tribute bands. Just to clarify…this was between the Gallagher brothers who are constantly battling one another. An intimate acoustic show in London for XFM in aid of the War Child ended up being a slinging much. Noel mocked his brother Liam by dedicating the track to ‘Stratford’s Finest Oasis Tribute Band’. Meanwhile One Direction is currently working on their second album but have not yet settled on a title. Here is an ironic response to their attempted cover:
