Nick McCarthy of Franz Ferdinand has unveiled a New Band called ‘The Nice Nice Boys’
Has Franz Ferdinand lost Nick to the nice boys? Listen to the new collaborative efforts.
Not content with being a fully signed up member of Franz Ferdinand, there are new projects for Nick McCarthy. His new band is called ‘The Nice Nice Boys’. In fact they have already released a new single titled ‘Round Town’. It has become very fashionable for members of great bands to open up side projects. Now this guitarist has decided to team up with ‘Johnny Marr and the Healers’ member Andy Knowles. The first single that has been released features the rapper Marvellous Macc Mello. The new piece was recorded in the Sausage Studios which actually belongs to McCarthy. They mixed it at Abbey Road and it will be released under the Meat Records which are jointly owned by Knowles and McCarthy.
Back to school for the new project
Apparently the pair met while attending the Glasgow School of Art way back in 2001. They then hit the road together under the Franz Ferdinand band. Andy Knowles was an extra touring musician for the group. For the new project they have teamed up with Macc Mello whose debut single ‘Drop That Beat’ has been featured on Skins, the hit teenage show on E4. It also featured on the film Eden Lake. Meanwhile Franz Ferdinand is enjoying something of a bloom with the debut of four new songs as follows:
- ‘Right Thoughts’
- ‘Brief Encounters’
- ‘Fresh Strawberries’
- ‘Trees And Animals’
The band is lined up for many appearances including a gig at the Field Day in London. Currently they are working on a new album which will be a follow-up to ‘Tonight’, the LP they released in 2009. There are also a series of European dates which should keep the band very busy in the coming months. However they do not have any further confirmed dates for the UK this year. Say hello to Nick McCarthy and group by listening to the clip below:
