Taylor Swift has nabbed Her First-Ever Hot 100 Number 1 with ‘Ever’
Taylor is swiftly making to the top: She has scored yet another hit.It started as something of a revenge song but ‘Ever’ is working out very well for Taylor Swift. The semi-Country singer has nabbed her first every Hot 100 number 1 courtesy of the piece. There are record-breaking digital sales for the VMA performer and her new single has been spurred on to leap right to the top of the Hot 100 listings. This is chart history for the singer and a really great debut for ‘We are Never Ever Getting Back Together’. It is estimated that ‘Ever’ notched up 623,000 downloads, a better result than the high point of Lady Gaga who earned 448,000 downloads courtesy of ‘Born this Way’. She started at number 72 but has leaped straight to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. This is the first time that she has topped that particular chart.
The sky is the limit for Taylor
Previously Taylor Swift came close but not near enough. ‘Today was a Fairytale’ and ‘You Belong with Me’ nearly made it by reaching number 2. ‘Mine’ came to number 3 but now she is right at the top with an astonishing record on the Digital Songs Chart. Some people have said that it is remarkable that it took her so long to reach this spot when she has had so much success elsewhere. However we have to make a distinction between the live performances and digital sales.
- A bestselling musician: Taylor Swift has sold more than 17.8 million albums according to the Nielson SoundScan report. This figure is just for the USA alone. Since bursting onto the scene in 2006, she has marketed more than 50 million digital downloads. Her songs have also topped other Billboard listings including Digital, Pop, Radio and Country genres.
Meanwhile the singer continues to make enormous strides in the radio side of things. She climbed to number 15 on the Radio Songs Chart. The singer is now number 13 on the Country Songs Chart. This is the highest debut by a female artist in the entire SoundScan era. It was announced that she would be a performer at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, singing her new song ‘Red’. The other artists that have been invited include One Direction, Pink, Alicia Keys and Green Day. You can catch the event live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on the 6th of September at 8pm ET/PT. Meanwhile…watch this:
