Nominations for the Mercury Prize 2012 have been Revealed

Who will get a Mercury gong this season? Look at the possibilities.

The list of artist from whom the winner is going to be picked for the Mercury Prize 2012 has been revealed. Many eager fans are waiting to see if their idol is on the venerated shortlist. Yesterday the organizers of the event announced the Mercury Prize Albums of the Year. There is nothing like a Plan B and your blood may not be able to take the pressure from alt-j. Some have picked Django Django as their favorite but that is no guarantee. It was at 5.30pm on the 12th of September that the Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2012 Albums of the Year was revealed to the eager public. The broadcaster-cum-presenter Lauren Laverne made the announcement.

The full ceremony will be hosted by the Hospital Club at Covent Garden in London. This should be enough to get all those reluctant fans out of bed to watch their favorite stars being honored in this way. An impromptu poll was announced once the list was revealed so that the fans could express their wishes for the winner. The final announcement of the successful entries will be made on the 1st of November. The music critic Alexis Petridis has been offering a knowledgeable review of all the proceedings.

Normally they select 12 albums of the year. An independent judging panel does this work so as to gather a snapshot of the music year. The Mercury Prize 2012 and its predecessors are designed to recognize artistic achievement in different music genres. That is why many artists set a lot of credibility on it. The eligibility period for the current year started from the 12th of July last year and ended on the 10th of September this year. All successful entrees have to come from either British or Irish artists.

The favorites include Jessie Ware, Django-Django, Laura Marling, Kate Bush, ‘The Maccabees’, Sam Lee, Richard Hawley, Plan B, Paul Buchanan, Rustie and Portico Quartet. Of course we cannot forget the newly released Mala in Cuba set which was done by Mala and Gilles Peterson.
