Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey Start a Feud as ‘American Idol’ Judges
Observers think the altercation
is a shot to draw publicity for
Things are getting increasingly tense in the new season of ‘American Idol.’ New judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj clashed when they had a disagreement over a contestant’s audition last week during the show’s stop in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In an interview with Barbara Walters, Carey revealed that some people heard Minaj utter threatening words against her during the taping of that audition. The heated argument escalated and was blown out of proportion especially when TMZ leaked a video of the controversial incident.
Admittedly, the altercation stirred controversy over the upcoming season of ‘American Idol.’ Observers believe the incident will be the talk of the town for many months after last week. Some skeptics logically think that the word war might be a stint to draw publicity.
Carey and Minaj had a meeting with the show’s producers in the middle of this week. The agenda was to discuss and resolve the altercation. According to reports, the two tried to bury the hatchet. Representatives for Minaj declined to immediately make comments over the incident.
During the interview with Walters, Carey was quoted as saying that she is not feeling comfortable emotionally. However, the singer expressed her intention to go on with the show. She even hired additional security personnel.
Another new ‘American Idol’ judge commented on the issue. Keith Urban disclosed that he has been trying to remain neutral on the feud. Nick Cannon, Carey’s husband, also gave a piece of his mind over the matter. He expressed his support for his wife and reiterated what people should focus on—the contestants who have dreams of making it to stardom.
The show, as tradition goes, is currently touring select locations in the US for the auditions. The new season will kick off in January.
